The Womens Ride returns in 2017!

3 Nov 2016 by Mark Drehlich

The 2017 Womens Ride will return bigger and better than ever before with the event being conducted over the 25th and 26th March as a ‘Festival of Womens Cycling’.

Event Director Mark Drehlich explained:" We have always aimed to promote the different opportunities that women have in cycling, as well as break down the barriers that many face, however we lost that message a little with the concept of a ride. For 2017 we have really wanted to make the point about how many different styles of cycling exist and the opportunities these present for women – so we are creating a festival of womens cycling."

“We are looking forward to announcing some fantastic events as a part of the festival, leading up to the weekend next year” Mark continued.

The ‘Festival of Womens Cycling’ will see opportunities for participation in both regional and metropolitan Victoria. Participation opportunities will cover all aspects of cycling, including; events, talks, cyclocross, track, mountain biking, BMX, road and trail riding, with others still being finalised.

2016 saw over 2,000 individuals participate in the day. 2017 aims to grow beyond 2,500 participants – womens, men and children, with a goal of 1,500 female participants. The day has always been about women enjoying time on bikes with families and friends. This won’t change in 2017.

Leaders are now being sought to conduct rides and events as a part of the festival. For more information please contact Mark Drehlich on 8480 3077 or mark.drehlich@cycling.org.au
